Four games into this series and the goals have come fast and furious for the highest scoring team in the regular season. The Penguins averaged 3.39 GPG during the regular season and have scored 15 so far here.
Columbus employs Sergei Bobrovsky, the odds-on favorite to win the Vezina handed out to the best goalie in the league, but if they don’t find a way to contain the Penguins, this series will likely end on Thursday.
The Blue Jackets did finish sixth in scoring during the regular season at 3.01 GPG, and they’ve managed to get their offense going in the last two games scoring nine goals of their own.
They traded 5-4 scores with the Penguins and now it’s do or die time again on home ice.
Columbus played desperate in game three building 4-2 and 5-3 leads before holding on at the end.
Cam Atkinson has two goals and Brandon Saad has three points to pace the attack for Columbus. They are also missing rookie defenseman Zach Werenski who averaged 23:29 after he took a puck to the face.
The Penguins are led by their usual big three with Evgeni Malkin (2-6-8), Phil Kessel (1-5-6) and Sidney Crosby (1-4-5) leading the way. But they’ve been joined by rookie Jake Guentzel (5-1-6) who’s enjoying a breakout first round.
That arsenal against a weakened Columbus backend should help the defending champs end the series on Thursday.
