The Brooklyn Nets begin a 17-day, eight-game road trip Monday against the Detroit Pistons, who have lost eight straight games and 11 of their last 12. The Nets are coming off a disappointing 105-93 home loss to Atlanta on Sunday, when they were outscored by 14 in the final quarter. Brooklyn, which has won the first two meetings against Detroit, stands one game back of third-place New York after winning nine of its last 15 games.
Detroit is probably happy to face a team from the East after losing all four games on its Western Conference road trip and falling to 4-24 against foes from the West. While the Pistons only have two more games against Western Conference teams, their schedule doesn’t get any easier. After hosting Brooklyn, the Pistons visit streaking Miami on Friday.
Brooklyn Nets (38-28): Brooklyn failed to tie the Knicks for the Atlantic Division lead after falling apart late against Atlanta. Guard Joe Johnson, who sat out Tuesday's win over New Orleans with a bruised left heel, returned against the Hawks and scored 18 points in 38 minutes. The Nets are leaving the Barclays Center for their season-long road trip while the Ringling Bros. circus comes to town, and coach P.J. Carlesimo isn’t pleased. “What’s very, very difficult about this is the timing,” Carlesimo said.
Detroit Pistons (23-45): Guard Brandon Knight has missed the last two games with a sprained left ankle, and he’ll likely be unavailable against the Nets. Rodney Stuckey scored a season-high 32 points while starting in place of Knight in Saturday’s 112-101 loss at Portland, and he has 54 points over his last two games. Center Greg Monroe had 23 points and 10 rebounds in a 93-90 win over the Nets on Feb. 6, and he’s averaging 20 points in two games against Brooklyn this season.
1. Brooklyn is 21-3 when holding its opponent under 90 points.
2. Detroit has won 15 of the last 18 games at The Palace of Auburn Hills against the Nets.
3. The Nets have won 16 road games this season, their most since 2006-07.
NBA Basketball Prediction: Nets 97, Pistons 88.
