Minnesota Vikings 2017-18 NFL Season Preview Football Odds & Free Predictions

The Story:
With quarterback Teddy Bridgewater still physically unable to perform, the Minnesota Vikings will once again have to rely on the pedestrian Sam Bradford who will be without the face of the franchise RB Adrian Peterson. Coach Mike Zimmer indicated that Bridgewater still has a long way to go to make it back under center and that leaves Bradford at the helm of a team that was expected to make it back to the playoffs after winning the NFC North a year before. Bradford, who was acquired from Philadelphia in a desperate move to replace Bridgewater, was impressive in his debut with the Vikings in winning the first five games but it was mainly due a stuffing defense that had allowed less than 11 points per game during that stretch. The unit then suffered a slew of injuries and Bradford showed us how ordinary he was by losing 8 of the last 11 games while missing the playoffs. With Peterson heading off to New Orleans, the Vikings made their first choice in this year’s draft on RB Dalvin Cook and he will be joined by Latavius Murray who left San Diego to join the Vikings.

The receiving duties will mostly rest on the shoulders of the same duo comprised of Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen who combined for 1,870 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Underrated Kyle Rudolph is as good as it gets at the tight end position and the Vikings also added the much-maligned but extremely talented WR Michael Floyd and if the former Patriot wideout can stay out of trouble, the receiving corps will be very potent indeed. 2016 first-round draft pick WR Laquon Treadwell should also be in the mix. Treadwell, who suffered a leg injury last year, caught only one pass in the one game he played in. The offensive line was abominable in 2016 and the Vikings addressed the situation via free-agency with the signing of LT Riley Reiff and T Mike Remmers. Two draftees, C Pat Elflein and C Danny Isidora could be tasked to start immediately for the unit. The defense is unique as it showed its potential in the first five games last year but injuries marred the unit down the stretch but should be heathier when the season begins.

The Bottom Line:
The defense should carry the team to high expectations but the offensive line is still suspect even with the new additions and the immobile Bradford at the helm, the offense could struggle to score points. The Vikings as a whole will be competitive and have a relatively easy schedule but I don’t see them reaching the double-digit mark in wins this season.

Minnesota Vikings Last year’s record: 8-8
