The biggest surprise of the first round is without a doubt the 3-0 series lead that Nashville holds over Chicago. For the Blackhawks to survive and play another day they’ll need to figure out a way to beat the Predators on their home ice.
That was something they seemed to be on the verge of doing in game three as they built a 2-0 lead through two periods.
In spite of the deficit, the Predators peppered Corey Crawford with 27 shots through those two periods and they kept up the pressure in the third. Filip Forsberg finally broke through getting both goals. And then it was 20-year old rookie Kevin Fiala who scored the winner.
Pekka Rinne and the Predators defense have been outstanding in this series as they shut out one of the best offense’s in the league through the first two games.
Overall Nashville has outscored Chicago 9-2 in the series.
But this is the three-time defending champions we are talking about here. It is hard to imagine that they won’t find a way to raise their game on Thursday and find a way to gut out a win.
