Jacksonville Jaguars 2017-18 NFL Season Preview Football Odds & Free Predictions

The Story:
Expectations were lofty last season for the Jacksonville Jaguars who were thought to have had all the ingredients to finally make the postseason since 2007. Instead, it was yet another abysmal campaign and they even regressed after a 5-win season in 2015 to capture only 3 meagre victories last year. Quarterback Blake Bortles was supposed to bring his club past the regular season but he too backslid in such a way that his job security under center is now in jeopardy. With all the investments the Jaguars have made around the No. 3 overall pick in 2014 in the last two years and with a new rookie in RB Leonard Fournette, Bortles will no doubt be impugned if Jacksonville doesn’t show significant improvement.

With Fournette, who was selected fourth overall in this year’s draft, in the backfield, it will certainly help Bortles to minimize the mistakes he has been prone to make his entire career with illogical and discouraging throws to the opposite teams. His work ethic also has been called into question on numerous occasions and he will need to get his act together for his time in Jacksonville will most certainly expire. His offensive line has been reinforced and he has two wide receivers in Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns who can easily reach the 1000-yard mark in receiving. The Jaguars’ defense has also improved significantly with the addition of DE Calais Campbell and CB A.J. Bouye who were stars with their former teams.

The Bottom Line:
The Jaguars’ defense is one of the best in the league and it will be the catalyst in many of the close games the Jaguars may encounter over the course. The same cannot be said with Bortles and his offense if he continues to act as a spoiled brat by throwing dangerous passes. He will be on a short leash and the Jaguars have been patient enough and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Chad Henne or even rookie Brandon Allen taking over the troubled quarterback at some point in the season. If he plays to his potential, the Jaguars have a solid chance to win half of their games during this campaign.
