Green Bay Packers 2017-18 NFL Season Preview Football Odds & Free Predictions

The Story:
The Green Bay Packers went through an emotional rollercoaster last season and it all started after their bye week in early October. Everything seemed to be running smoothly winning two of their three games after the break and held a 4-2 record and then everything fell apart as their defense made a disappearing act with the unit allowing a whopping 153 points in the next four games and suddenly, panic in Wisconsin ensued. Relax, said quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the Green Bay community and boldly predicted that his team would run the table and he almost delivered. Green Bay went on to win the NFC North but fell to the Atlanta Falcons in the Conference Championship. As long as Rodgers runs the show in Green Bay, this team will always vie for the highest honor regardless of the team provides him as a supporting cast. The offensive line is fine despite the loss of guard T.J. Lang and Rodgers will still have his formidable battery of receivers in Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams.

Former New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett was added into the mix as he will replace Jared Cook who will catch passes from Derek Carr in Oakland. However, with running back Eddie Lacy bolting to Seattle, the Packers are stuck with Tim Montgomery in the backfield and although he had some bright moments last season, he is not a viable option to carry the load for an entire season. The Packers selected three backs in the draft this spring so it is entirely possible that one of the three could pan out. Defensively, the Packers were torched on numerous occasions with their cornerbacks taking the bulk of the blame. They played much better in the latter part of the season but the Packers didn’t take any chances and spent their second-round picks on CB Kevin King S Josh Jones and both who could have an immediate impact. They also added CB Davon House who signed with the team this offseason.

The Bottom Line:
The Packers are a well-coached team and are notorious at finding solutions to complications that may arise in a long season. The offense will be as potent as ever even though they lack a legitimate presence in the backfield but can the defense gel together and make crucial stops? That remains to be seen. Expect another double-digit season in wins but will lose the division to the Lions.
